Hitmontop is part of an interesting evolutionary line in Pokemon Go. Here are the different ways to get Hitmontop in the game.

Hitmontop is a Fighting type Pokemon from the Johto region. Hitmontop is known for spinning on its head at a fast speed and delivering kicks at the same time.

Hitmontop made its Pokémon Go debut in 2017 as part of the main release for the Johto region in the game. A Shiny version of Hitmontop was added in 2022 as part of the Pokémon Go Tour: Johto event.

How to get Hitmontop in Pokémon Go

There are different ways to get Hitmontop in Pokémon Go. It can be found in the wild, the spawn rate is mid, not the rarest Pokemon but also not the most common.

The second method is encountering it as a Raid Battle Boss. Hitmontop appears as Tier one Raid Battle Boos and can be faced by a single player. The best counters against Hitmontop are Fairy, Flying, and Psychic type Pokémon.

The third option is evolving a Tyrogue. Here is where the interesting evolutionary line unfolds.

Tyrogue is a baby Pokemon from Johto that has three possible evolutions in Pokemon Go. The evolution will depend on different stats. If Tyrogue’s highest IV is Attack, it will evolve into a Hitmonlee. If the highest IV is Defense, it evolves into Hitmonchan. To get a Hitmontop, Tyrogue’s highest IV must be Stamina. It requires 25 candies to evolve it. Tyrogue can be hatched from a 5km egg.

How to see IVs in Pokémon GO

The IVs in Pokémon Go are one of the “hidden” stats. These are not obvious at first glance and cannot be calculated manually. Years back, players developed third-party apps to extract IVs and give Pokémon a rank out of 100, with 100 being the best possible in the game.

To check the IVs on your Pokémon, tap on the three lines in the bottom right corner of the screen, tap Appraise, and your team leader will give you the results.

Pokémon Go incorporated this into the game to give each Pokémon a ranking out of three stars. There are over 4,000 possible IVs in the game. These stats cannot be changed.
