span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Fnatic’s hero has returned, as Martin “Rekkles” Larsson will return to the squad’s starting lineup this week.

Following Fnatic’s EU LCS Spring Championship and subsequent Mid Season Invitational appearance, the League of Legends meta went through some dramatic changes. Mage bot lanes were an increasingly viable strategy, and Rekkles’ individual game impact suffered when taken off of his signature marksmen picks. Rekkles opted to take a step back from the team, allowing Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau to hold down the bot lane with a more applicable champion pool.

Unfortunately for Fnatic, the meta stabilized in a way that left Rekkles without much space for a reintroduction to the team. In an interview with Travis Gafford, Rekkles gave his perspective on the situation:

“The main reason is because of the meta. The champions that are the strongest [in the bot lane] are not the champions that I played before, [but] are champions that Bwipo plays consistently, so we thought that it was better for the team if Bwipo plays rather than me,” Rekkles said.

But now the meta has returned to a more standard style fans and players would expect in League of Legends. While mage and other nontraditional picks are still viable in the carry role, marksmen have made enough of a return to justify Rekkles moving back into the starting lineup. Fans can expect Fnatic to maintain their top standing in the EU LCS with Rekkles once again at the helm.
