The League of Legends World Championship trophy, most recently hoisted by EDward Gaming, will undergo a redesign led by luxury jeweler Tiffany & Co.
The Summoner’s Cup is the ultimate trophy in League of Legends esports. Created by Thomas Lyte, the company claims that its production took over 300 hours with a team of eight people. It’s an icon of the game’s history, but it’s getting a makeover after the 2022 Summer season. Riot Games has announced that the World Championship trophy will be redesigned by New York-based Jeweler Tiffany and Co. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Summoner’s Cup redesign.
The original Summoner’s Cup was the prize for the 2012 Season 2 World Championship. The first LoL Worlds trophy was made by Thomas Lyte, a luxury English brand specialized in sporting trophies. The company is responsible for a host of illustrious traditional sports trophies. Thomas Lyte also created the trophies used in the LEC and LCS.
Now Riot has looked closer to home with American jewelry retailer Tiffany & Co, a distinguished company that has also created a number of the most recognizable trophies in sports. Tiffany created the current trophies for the NBA Finals, NHL Super Bowl and NBL World Series.
This is not the first collaboration between the Riot Games and Tiffany & Co.. The American company also designed the trophy used in China’s LPL. It’s next piece of silverware will appear for the first time at the 2022 World Championship. Riot teased that the event “marks a new era for LoL Esports” as the game’s competitive scene enters its second decade.
When will the new LoL Worlds trophy be revealed?
The new Summoner’s Cup is to be unveiled for the first time on Monday, August 29 in a “global digital debut… across Riot Games, LoL Esports, and Tiffany & Co. digital and social channels.”
The new cup is said to weigh a whopping 44 pounds standing 27 inches tall, ensuring to live up to the immense size of it’s predecessor.
