Elden Ring is the latest From Software game, winning Game of the Year for 2022. With so many people jumping into the game, gamers are curious: Can you play Elden Ring cross-platform with your friends on console or PC?
Elden Ring is one of the largest gaming phenomena in recent memory, a smash hit from developer From Software and director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The grim-yet-epic fantasy RPG bears all the hallmarks of From Software’s brand of soulslike gameplay, named after its Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls series of games.
If you’re looking to team up with friends, does From Software allow cross-platform play in Elden Ring?
Can you play Elden Ring cross-platform?
The simple answer is no, Elden Ring cannot be played cross-platform cooperatively or competitively.
Neither the summon system nor the recently-introduced Colosseum PvP DLC allow players from different families of gaming devices to play together. Elden Ring is, however, cross-generational between gaming platforms of the same make. This is to say that PS4 and PS5 players can still join one another, as can XBOX One and XBOX Series X/S players.
As nice as it would be for community mods to fix the problem, there’s no workaround here. There’s simply no way to force Elden Ring to pair up two players on different systems entirely.
For PC players, you’ll be restricted to playing with other players on computer, but you’re at least able to modify the ways in which you can cooperate with friends.
There’s a seamless coop mod available and plenty of other ways to modify it to better fit your expectations, but there’s no way to jump into the same game as your Xbox or PlayStation-using friends.
This doesn’t look to be changing any time soon, so you’re best off accepting that the console-and-PC experience are going to likely be separate for the game’s life span, with no announced plans to change this.
