Moist Esports has announced that it is entering Valorant esports.

Moist Esports has signed a NA Challengers team, BreakThru, and are planning to compete in Valorant esports. This is a surprise expansion for the popular esports organization, although there were rumors that co-owner Ludwig Ahgren wanted to form a Valorant team in the past.

Now, Ludwig has taken to Twitter to tell the esports community that it has finally happened.

Who are the Moist Moguls?

The Moist Moguls are Moist’s new Valorant squad, made up of members of BreakThru, a NA Challengers team. BreakThru is made up of the following five players.

  • Brady “thief” Dever
  • Alex “aproto” Protopapas
  • Xavier “flyuh” Carlson
  • Brock “brawk” Somerhalder
  • Tyler “sym” Porter

BreakThru is currently competing in VCT NA Challengers at the time of the announcement with a 1-1 record. The team is quite promising, made up of former members of Ghost Gaming and FaZe Clan. It’s also coached by Tanishq “Tanizhq” Sabharwal, Vitality’s former coach.

Did Ludwig have a Valorant team?

Before Moist Esports, Ludwig didn’t own any Valorant team— but he did consider it.

Ludwig explained recently that having a Valorant team was one reason he wanted to get involved in esports despite it “dying” in 2023. But he felt there were a lot of risks involved with jumping into the tactical shooter.

“Let’s say I sign a Valorant team and they get knocked out in [the Challengers league], which wouldn’t be shocking,” he explained. “It could happen. Then I think they have to wait until next year and they have to do it all over again. Valorant is tough.”

Is Ludwig part of Moist Esports?

Moist Esports announced that Ludwig was coming on as a co-owner at the start of 2023. In the announcement video, Ludwig joked with Moist owner Charles “MoistCr1TiKaL” White that they were both looking forward to losing more money on esports, a nod to Moist’s admission that he loses “six figures per month” running the organization.

To continue the joke, Ludwig tweeted that he had spent “$500K of Charlie’s money” on purchasing the Valorant team. While the two continue to joke about losing money with Moist Esports, it’s clear that they both have a passion for the industry.

Ludwig hosted one of the largest Super Smash Bros. tournaments in history before teaming up with Moist, dropping one of the biggest prize pools for the grassroots scene. He followed up with more Smash tournaments after, including one in Las Vegas with some of the biggest names in Smash.

With the addition of Moist Moguls, Moist Esports now has players competing in the following games.

  • Valorant
  • Smash
  • Guilty Gear Strive
  • Rocket League
  • Apex Legends

Moist Moguls will make its first official appearance on February 27 in a Challengers match against Turtle Troop.
