Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has made League of Legends esports history yet again by being the first professional player to compete in 100 Worlds games over his career.
Faker has been competing at the World Championships since 2013, the year he debuted on the professional stage and claimed his first Summoner’s Cup. Since then, the decorated mid laner has taken part in Worlds during 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, and this year.
This impressive record and his regular appearance in the playoffs bracket means Faker is well ahead of his peers when it comes to games played on the biggest international circuit.
Faker makes history with 100 Worlds games
Faker became the first to cross the barrier of 100 games played at the World Championships on October 9, 2022, during the first week of the group stage.
The multiple-time Worlds winner is well ahead of the next-closest player, Team Vitality’s mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, who stands at 86 games at Worlds. It’s not just the sheer number of games that is impressing fans, but Faker’s staggering win rate over the course of that milestone.
Faker has won 72 out of his 100 games at Worlds, nearly three-quarters of his matches emerging as victories for the T1 legacy player. Faker continues to cement his reputation as the single greatest player that League of Legends has produced over its more than a decade-long lifespan.
While it’s been many years since Faker hoisted the Summoner’s Cup, he continues to distinguish himself as a cut above his peers in terms of sheer longevity. Faker has been competing at Worlds for longer than many professional players’ careers end up lasting, and has been consistently able to reach the highest stages of the competition despite the roster around him changing over and over again.
Faker can’t seem to stop setting impressive records, with no end in sight. Worlds 2022 is simply the latest in a long line of challenges conquered by the LCK star.
